mtm2000Hey guy's and Gals, Has anyone experienced problems with there signal lights?? I have a problem where if I turn left I hear and see the blinker going very fast and no indication from out side the car that I'm turning, when I turn right all is correct?? It's intermittent. Any idea's

Y2K Kat Kanada.

ed monahanyou probably have a bad bulb. You can do a free check by switching the front & rear bulbs from one side to the other and then see if the right side does it but the left side works.
392HEMIMy best guess, from the symptom, is a burned out bulb in the tail light, or front bumper, or maybe side light, but I don't think it would cause the fast flash. The flasher is supposed to let you know there is a burned out bulb not completing the system.
JohnCWhile the bulbs may have good filaments, you may have excessive resistance at a contact in the bulb socket, or the wire from the socket to a nearby ground attachment may have an excessive resistance where it it grounded. I would be begin by checking that the bulbs and the sockets on the left side into which they fit have clean shiny contact surfaces and that the nearby ground wires are tightly grounded and not corroded.

Did you say that there is no turn-signal indication from outside the car? Does this include both front and rear? If so, you may be looking at a faulty turn signal switch.

catfishusually a fast flashing on the dash arrow is a bad bulb, could be 1 of the 3 listed above.if you have a bad bulb the flasher will not compensate for it,thats why it will flash fast.its a easy fix turn on signal and see which bulb is out.

------------------

idiveThat happened to me in my Prowler a few years ago. I figured it was a bulb out. I bought a replacement at the dealer and it didn't work. I put the car in the shop and they found out it was something with the wireing to the front blinker. I know of a few others on this site that have had this same problem/cause. But if I remember right, at least mine would flash in the rear so that I would know it was the front wigging out. Let us know what you find.
mtm2000OK Boys

To answer some of your questions. there is no signal light indication on either the front or rear, when this is happening. inside I hear and see it flashing at me very fast and clicking very fast. I have had all the bumpers off so it could be the wiring in the bumpers it self, or a bad ground, Im checking it out ASAP, all the conections look good, all of the bulbs are good.
Question where is the blinker relay?? is it up on the fuse pannel ?? is it the blue square looking thing??
I am installing Tom Mills front blinker assembly and will let all of you know what's up.

catfishwhy didnt you tell us theres no t/s light frt,rr.cant give advise w/o correct info.kind of like saying,i have a knock in the engine.then oh,i forgot it doesnt have any oil in it.da

------------------

JohnCActually, he did say in his original post that there was no indication from outside of the car.

Since it works OK for the right side, that tells me the flashing relay module is most-likely OK. No indication at all on the left side points to a problem with the turn-signal switch on the steering column (referred to in the service manual as the 'multi-function switch.') or an open in the circuit between the switch and the left turn signal lights.

Has anyone worked on the car recently? New stereo? New steering wheel? Anything that would require someone to get into the car's wiring for some reason?

catfishhe says all the bumpers have been off also.thats were id start, assuming this started after he put the bumpers back on.bumper wiring.plugs not plugged all the way in.?-also ck the flasher unit.at first he says its the left, second hesays frt orr,im assuming hes talikg lt.still then could be a flasher, but sounds like a connection if it started after bumpers wer put back on if thats the case.

catfishno signal lt frt or lt rr. start w/a flasher.when were bumpers off and reinstalled recently or awhile ago.still chk plugs, could be a loose plug.
mtm2000Hey Cat fish, I guess you can't read or you have problems with plain english, I tell you what, when it comes to my questions on this site keep your advice to yourself. I thank everyone else for there comments and advice.

There has been no work on the wiring only the bumpers removed and reinstalled correctly, all plugs connected and all light bulbs were good
I guess Im looking at wiring problem, turn signal switch or flasher unit.

dooboymtm2000, you are one lucky boy, i just went through the same thing with my car, i had a lot of grief with it only because everything i read about pertains to US cars, canadian ones are eqiupped with DRL, your problem is in the DRL module, just replace it and your problem will be gone, it's located behind the left hand side engine panel, the part is about $80.00, good luck.
mtm2000DooBoy

Tell me more please. What does DRL stand for?? what does it look like and what go's wrong with the unit?
You had the exact same problem as me? Intermittent fast signal inside the car with no indication outside the car?

I am glad you picked up on the Canadian part, I guess there are differences in both cars.

Im not home at the moment, but will be looking into that direction when I get back Thank you very much

Cheers
MTM aka Y2K Kat Kanada

idiveDRL = Daylight Running Lights
dooboyI had the exact symtoms for the last 4 years, it was so intermitant that it was so hard to diagnose, finally about a month ago, it was doing it all the time, went through the schematic and the power path stopped at the DRL module, replaced the module two weeks ago & it hasn't miss a beat, the module looks like a relay, here is the part # 04373690-AB, it was hard to find the location of it as the manual does not mention where it's hidden, when you remove your left engine panel, you will see it.
